Friday, May 1 took place the Expo Milano 2015 opening ceremony and we are very happy to say “we were there”. The Factory students were protagonists of the event in one of the topic moments: the parade of the flags of the different countries participating in the Expo 2015. Here an excerpt from an article on the official site:

“The opening ceremony held at the Open Air Theatre, started this morning with the speech of the government Commissario Unico Delegato for Expo Milano 2015, Giuseppe Sala: “I personally thank everybody supported the universal exposition starting with Emma Bonino, Ermanno Olmi, Carlin Petrini, Salvatore Veca, Giorgio Armani and Andrea Bocelli. But above all – Sala continued – if we are here we owe the workers that built the expositive site. Expo 2015 is not daughter to an Italian miracle, but to a devotion that only a few can express and it’s gorgeous that a relevant part of the designing and of the realization was in the hands of a team of young people.” Among the political authorities that took part in the event, the mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia. In the audience the former Head of State Giorgio Napolitano, the Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni, the Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti, the Minister of Agricultural Policies Maurizio Martina and the Minister of Infrastructures Graziano Delrio.

The treble voices choir of Milan together with the choir of the Alpine Soldiers sang the Italian national anthem modifying the last verse from “we are ready for death, Italy called” to “we are ready for life, Italy called” sung by the children. And from the anthem the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi draw inspiration: “Italy is awake and we are ready for life. Let’s demonstrate with the Expo that Italy is proud of its roots, of its traditions. Our past invites us to build and not only to remember. Come and see what’s the flavor of the Italian Expo. We haven’t still won this bet, we have six months ahead of us to win. Today – continued the Prime Minister – tomorrow begins, Expo is first of all a space for freedom, a moment of confrontation for the new generations, let’s demonstrate that Italy is proud of its roots and its traditions, but we still have to write the most beautiful page all together”. After having signed the Carta di Milano, Matteo Renzi, in the end, declared Expo Milano 2015 officially open.
